Love them or hate them they did work - over the years they fell into decay requiring lots of maintenance and were considered cold and draughty. We have seen sliding sashes removed and replaced with modern looking conventional PVCu or Aluminium top hung opening windows having a devastating effect on the property.
We have now see a revival for vertical sliding windows, as home owners strive to bring back some character and authenticity back to their properties along with many such properties falling into Listed Building or Conservation Area status.
What are the Replacement Options?

Repair or Renovate Sash Windows
Easily and draught seals, broken sash cords and pulleys can be replaced without too much trouble. However, extensive repairs to a badly damaged and degraded sash window can become an elaborate and long drawn out process and, unless we are looking at a grade II listed building, it may not always be worth the Time, expense, effort and specialist treatment required.
Alternative options
Fortunately, there is now a sustainable and cost effective alternative to both undertaking extensive repair work or full frame replacement, which will preserve the character of the original window. As traditional box sash windows are set back into the brickwork, even when the sash itself has degraded and rotted away, the outer frame is often protected from the elements and is usually still in a relatively good condition and therefore worth saving. Complete replacement sashes can be supplied and fitted on a made to measure basis to include double glazed sealed units.
Main Benefit: Apart from the obvious cost implication there is little or no mess to the rooms and fitting areas. Contact us for an estimate
