Sunrooms

Tiled Roof ConservatoryWe only supply and install quality conservatories offering highly insulated and fully resistant door and window frames, delivering the best in technologically advanced glazing systems. Now times are changing the traditional conservatory is now evolving from polycarbonate and glass roofs to Fully tiled buildings, often referred to as a Sunroom.

Basically a Sunroom has a tiled or slated roof, while a Conservatory has a glass or polycarbonate roof. This simple difference means a Sunroom is warmer in the winter and cooler in summer.

What are the benefits of a Sunroom?

A Sunroom will quickly become an integral part of your home adding value, character and year round enjoyment to your property. A light and airy place to relax or work ideal as a children’s play area or to entertain guests in style.

Generally sunrooms built with a tiled or slated roofs are better insulated than conservatories. With an insulated roof, double glazed windows and doors along with insulated floors you will have an extension to your home that can be used and appreciated all of the year round.

On the other hand Conservatories in summer tend to overheat and then cool down too quickly in the evenings. If in full sunlight normally requires expensive internal blinds. In the winter a lack of heat retention means that the extension is normally only slightly above the outside temperature.

Sun rooms will naturally blend in with your existing property. You still even get the high pitched internal side of the roof! Giving you that high ceiling which can be plastered and you can incorporate all kinds of lights.

Velux Roof Window
If you do require some sunlight or ventilation through the roof area of your sunroom then you should consider ‘Velux@ windows which are an excellent choice.

(Technically these buildings now become a form of extension are all subject to planning and building regulations approval).

See below for more details on construction methods.

 Sundyal System

Sunroom Roof Construction

The new SUNDYAL tiled roofing system Brought to you by Wendland roof systems:  Sundyal is an exciting new ‘hybrid’ product that’s set to change the way people think about extending their living space.

It takes a conservatory’s side wall and base and gives them a unique, yet highly attractive twist – a solid roof.

Sundyal combines the practicality of an extension with the light and space of a conservatory. The insulation that is built into the Sundyal Sun Room means you will have a room that remains cooler in summer and warmer in winter than a typical conservatory.

This gives you an all year round extension to the home that also adds value to your existing.

 Part Traditional

Part Traditional build using slate or concrete tiles

Sunroom - Part traditional buildWith this system the building is constructed using traditional methods but unlike a traditonal conservatory that is constructed of window frames.

A steel ring beam is made supported by Brick or Steel clad corner pillars to the design because of the extra weight involved for the roof.

Windows & doors are inserted between the supporting pillars.

The roof is constructed of traditional timbers and then tiled, the internals follow the shape of the roof and will include superior insulation, and the interiors are then plastered and can be decorated to your choice giving a warm pleasing effect to the eye.

Technically these buildings now become a form of extension are all subject to planning and building regulations approval.

These will need to be designed and assessed on an individual basis.  This is to make sure that all aspects of the current building regulations can be met by our designs.

Heat loss is a big factor with any building subject to building control.  By using highly efficient materials and products it is possible to meet the stringent heat loss figures enabling us to open up the new room to the house. This gives so much scope to extend off of an existing room making for a beautiful summer room.

Please Note: Ground works / footings will have to go deeper than normal conservatories, therefore sunrooms are superior to conservatories in every aspect.
